Right In Florida

Motto: This is what happens when Insanity and Banality come together.

Name:
Location: North Central Florida, United States

I'm an aging boomer, white male (cue scary music); not religious, mostly conservative. Married to the same woman forever. No kids-by choice (I believe in personal choice in most areas of life). Voted mostly Republican until November 2000 when the national Democrats tried to steal the election in Florida. I promised to never again vote for another Democrat; kept that promise to date.

Religion of Peace, My Ass! (Part 12)

Terrorism close to home. Brought to you by a proponent of the "Religion of Peace" in Seattle.

"Officials stepped up security at both synagogues and mosques Saturday as authorities investigated a shooting at a Jewish organization that killed an employee and wounded five others, including a pregnant woman."

"Police arrested Naveed Afzal Haq, 30, after the shooting Friday afternoon and he was booked for investigation of homicide and attempted homicide, police said. They were investigating the shooting as a hate crime."

A "hate crime" huh? Gee, what gave it away?

"He said 'I am a Muslim American, angry at Israel,' before opening fire on everyone," Meislin-Dietrich said. "He was randomly shooting at everyone."Police would not confirm the account."

"Yousef Shehadeb, 46, a member of the Islamic Center of the Tri-Cities, recalled Haq as quiet and something of a loner. Shehadeb said he and Haq's father, Mian Haq, both work at the Hanford nuclear reservation, as do many members of the area's Muslim community."

Muslims at a "nuclear reservation"? Gee, I feel real safe.

So a Muslim nutcase tries to kill lots of Jews. So what now.

Kerlikowske said police were protecting mosques "because there's always the concern of retaliatory crime."

Well, of course! Those poor practitioners of the "Religion of Peace" are always being picked on. I'm sure there are thousands of such instances, right. Well, how about hundreds? No. Well, how many targeted killings of Muslims in America have there been since 9-11? How about, NONE.

"In a statement, the Islamic Center offered condolences to the shooting victims and said "we disassociate this act from our Islamic teachings and beliefs."

In a word...bullshit!

Yet another murder in Marion County

Now for something completely different.

"It was a week ago today that Miller, 63, was murdered during a robbery at her home at 9262 S.E. 179th Wesley St. in The Villages of Marion. Her husband, James Miller, 68, was also wounded. The couple's daughter, Shelia Miller, 39, is reportedly acquainted with two of the three suspects charged with the murder."

Here's the twist. See if you can spot the trouble we're going to have.

"Renaldo D. McGirth, 18, Theodore C. Huston, 17, and Jarrord M. Roberts, 20, all remain in the Marion County Jail without bail, charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, armed kidnapping and resisting an officer without violence."

AND

"Sheila Miller was missing from her mother's memorial service Thursday. A temporary restraining order, filed by her father earlier this week, required Sheila to stay at least 500 feet away from him."

The mother was murdered, the father was shot and nearly killed, and the daughter was supposedly kidnapped. The daughter invited the 3 men into her parent's home.

You're right, it's not clear what I mean. Well, you won't find it most of the news stories about this murder and attempted murder, and maybe a kidnapping.

The victims were white, the defendants are black. Yes, we're going to have trouble if another white jury finds 3 black men guilty of murder, etc. Especially if it turns out the daughter was involved in setting up this atrocity.

A murder conviction in Ocala

Yes, we're a sleepy little town. But we in Ocala (and Marion County) have our share of murders. Senseless, stupid ones. The trial of one such murderer concluded yesterday.

"A six-member, all-white jury deliberated for about three hours Thursday before reaching the verdict. Family members of Cox and Robinson waited in the hallways and in the courtroom. The three-day trial had been somewhat emotional, especially after El Shawn Joshua testified that Cox pleaded for the life of her son before she was fatally shot in the head. After the verdict, 5th Circuit Chief Judge Victor Musleh sentenced Shell to two life sentences, which he will serve consecutively, and 25 years for the robbery, which he will serve concurrently."

An interesting paragraph. Note that an "all white-jury" found a someone guilty of murder. So what's missing?

You're right. The convicted murderer is a young black man. Seems like grounds for the verdict being overturned, right? Well, not quite.

See, the two victims were also black. And there was no doubt that the killer was the man convicted. So, no racism involved (of course). So we can breathe a sigh of relief that our county won't automatically be considered as a KKK stonghold. Kinda sad, isn't it, that the dream of a color blind nation is still that...a dream.

Also, if you're like me, you are somehow surprised every time you hear that it only takes a 6 member jury to try a murder case. It's amazing how strong an impact such movies as "12 Angry Men" have made.

I've been off-line...

for quite a while. Why? Personal issues to resolve. Work taking even more of personal time. Lack of initiative. Lack of anything worthwhile to say. But I'll be back.

Religion of Peace, My Ass! (Part 11)

I had pretty much stopped this series, but only because there are so many examples of insanity, stupidity, duplicity, etc. related to the "religion of peace" that it's so hard to choose. However, Michelle Malkin has a perfect example of the hatred and intolerance that is at the root of so much of Islam.

Too many (most?) Muslims are culturally backward, which is why they subscribe to this violent dark ages religion. You think I'm wrong? Hell, even Turkey is turning back the clock. And you saw just how fast Iran sank into its current state of Islamist bliss.

Katherine Harris

As reported by NewsMax and elsewhere, Katherine Harris "will undergo surgery later this month to remove an ovarian mass, which will be tested to determine if it is malignant."

I truly wish her well.

I will vote for her, and support her campaign with some cash, IF she is the Republican nominee. As I've mentioned before, I think she should have stayed in the House another term or two before going for Senate. But the Republicans had a real problem getting someone to run, so she stepped in. She has more balls than most and she will be a better senator than Bill Nelson (D) and no worse than Mel Martinez (R).

Couey Trial Starts Monday

John Couey, the bastard who killed Jessica Lunsford, will go on trial on Monday. Couey's confession and past history has been thrown out by the judge. There is no doubt of his guilt.

My thoughts are summed up in the words of Jessica's grandmother: "I want him to die. I want him to have the death penalty," she said. "I'd like him to go through a lot of torture because he tortured my granddaughter."

The Ocala Star Banner will blog the trial. Even though it's a NY Times newspaper and therefore suspect, I'll probably read it. But I don't expect fairness from this fishwrapper.

Wish I had something interesting to say

or even new. But I don't. I have been a little depressed for past few weeks as I've watched my investments lose value and I've been kicking myself for not getting out sooner. I thought I was smarter than that, but it turns out I was too greedy. Oh well, I've tried to stop the bleeding and maybe that'll work. Now if I can just stop kicking myself.

"The July 4th Knucklehead of the Day Marathon"

The Florida Masochist is "running" another marathon: the July 4th Knucklehead of the Day Marathon that is. Each Knucklehead winner deserves his/her award.

Another Independence Day

We get to celebrate another Independence Day because of the brave men and women who founded this nation, and because of the sacrifice of those who came after who defended her with life and property.

We will endure, despite treasonous news media and cowardly Democrats.

Osama - Ghost Who Talks

So Osama Obama bin Hiding has issued another press release.

Again, it's audio.

No surprise. As I've said before, the bastard's long dead. The voice is that of his son who sounds very much like him.

And of course our super sleuths can't say for sure that he's dead. No body (buried in a mountain, most likely), no proof.

Well, that was interesting

I gave blood last Wednesday. Nothing unusual in that. But this time I let them talk me into undergoing a new procedure in which the blood in drained out, the red cells removed and the liquid returned into my body. The procedure wasn't painful and wasn't (very) uncomfortable. Problem was it took over an hour from the time I lay down until they were finished. I usually give blood in 20 minutes and then back to work. Another problem, I felt kinda crappy for the next 24 hours. No big deal, and it may not have had anything to do with the procedure...but it may have second thoughts when it comes time to do it again.

Judge throws out Couey confession

Too bad, but understandable. I don't blame the cops and I don't blame the judge.

This miserable bastard is to blame and this miserable bastard should die. Preferably in torment, but die nevertheless.

Good health, Mr. Cheney

Mr. Cheney had another annual physical today. Early word seems to be he's in good (enough) health. That's great for American. We've been very lucky to have him as Vice President. Continued good health to him.

Space Shuttle Launch...fingers crossed

Well, today is first chance to launch Discovery. Weather may be problem, but it's better right now than expected. There is some danger, but I still beleive in a cost-benefits analysis approach to space travel. I wish the the Discovery team members all the best, and hope it goes this afternoon.

Berkely to "vote" on impeachment

Yes, this is stupid. Yes, this is pointless. And yes, of course, this is Berkely California so it's more of a "dog bites man" story. And so of course the voters will be comprised of:

Bush haters.

Republican haters.

America haters.

Lefties.

In a word...Democrats.

Friday was an understated day

Because it was my wife's birthday. She turned....well, let's say we both have reached an age when we say that age isn't important. And in her case it's true. I swear she looks as beautiful as when I met her 32 years ago. She says I'm a liar, but it's true. You gotta believe me. On the other hand, I look older than dirt. I'm convinced I'm doing the aging for both of us.

We didn't do anything significant to celebrate, but then we never do celebrate our birthdays. That stopped shortly after we married, including gift giving. Since it's impossible to surprise her and I don't really care for gifts, we buy things during the year and claim it's for a birthday or holiday. We also don't celebrate most holidays and often barely acknowledge them. We decided that we would create other ways and days to 'celebrate' and it's worked well for decades. I hope there are decades left to continue to do so.

Oh, yeah, I took off from work Thursday thru Tuesday so I can be with her (whether she wanted it or not).
