Right In Florida

Motto: This is what happens when Insanity and Banality come together.

Name:
Location: North Central Florida, United States

I'm an aging boomer, white male (cue scary music); not religious, mostly conservative. Married to the same woman forever. No kids-by choice (I believe in personal choice in most areas of life). Voted mostly Republican until November 2000 when the national Democrats tried to steal the election in Florida. I promised to never again vote for another Democrat; kept that promise to date.

And yeah...

I've been very quiet lately. Maybe I'll post more.

I've been pissed at lots of crap that's been going on in our nation, but that's not been enough motivation.  Besides, others have posted and reported on these matters so much better.

Right now I was thinking of personal issues and decided I'd share.

What I Believe: Christians

I'm not religious, at least not for decades, and am not a Christian.

But I believe this nation needs more committed Christians.  Christianity---you know, the type that truly loves the sinners, but hates the sins---are necessary to keep us focused on true morality...not situational...and to strive for that very hard goal of loving our neighbors.

And dammit, moral behavior is necessary.  Even people who have been, or are, engaged on lots of immoral behavior can understand and appreciate this.  Perhaps even more than the habitually moral.

Christians who believe in forgiveness, regardless of the sin, help keep many of us who are like me (frankly, I have one hell of a time forgiving others, even though I need much forgiveness) need to emulate that excellent example.

True Christians usually respect other religions, even if when they have strong disagreements. Disagreeing without violence or hatred...now that's Christ-like.  Of course, many (most?) Christians have a hard time following Christian teachings.  But they know they're supposed to, so failure is okay so long as they understand that is what Christ wants.

What I Believe: Abortion

For those who know me, this may come as a bit of a surprise.  I'm going to attend a pro-life event sponsored by a local women's center as a guest of the center's very Christian staff.  (It's a slightly lengthy story.)  The main speaker will be Tim Tebow's mom.

Now I'm pro-choice and used to be virulently pro-abortion, but have moderated over the years.  But I very much appreciate being around people who are seriously against abortion, but not against those who have had an abortion or those who support abortion. True believers who respect others opinions are very much fun to be around.

I look forward to this event.

(I'll likely have more to say about my position on abortion---especially partial birth abortion---in a later post.)
