Right In Florida

Motto: This is what happens when Insanity and Banality come together.

Name:
Location: North Central Florida, United States

I'm an aging boomer, white male (cue scary music); not religious, mostly conservative. Married to the same woman forever. No kids-by choice (I believe in personal choice in most areas of life). Voted mostly Republican until November 2000 when the national Democrats tried to steal the election in Florida. I promised to never again vote for another Democrat; kept that promise to date.

Been a busy two weeks

I went to a conference for a few days beginning the 18th that was held in a Disney resort in the Orlando area. It was for training which lasted all day, so I didn't go to the parks. The training was right on point to my job and was well worth the cost. I took Mrs. Right with me (for the first time) and she didn't have much to do until the evening. She enjoyed the sunshine and did reading around the hotel pool. She said she could have done the same at home, so maybe she won't go to another conference with me.

But we did have dinners out which we did enjoy. We went to a favorite restaurant we hadn't been too in 10 years. We were somewhat disappointed. The food was good, but not up to standards we expected. Unfortunately one of the original owners had recently died and the other sold out. He trained the new owners, but some things you can't teach.

More later.

UPDATE (7/03/07)

Yeah, lots more happened. But I lead such a boring life, it's not really interesting enough to post.

Well, Now I know

I've only posted on the legislature adventure in tax fixing here.

I didn't know how I felt at that time, but now I do.

Again our legislature took a big idea and made a lot of smaller ideas.

And of course, the state legislators and government didn't and won't feel the pain.

Will it work? Local governments will have to make it work. So...maybe.

I hate to agree with the Ocala Star Banner editorial, but I think it's right on point.

Happy Fathers' Day (2007)

For all you Dad's out there: Happy Father's Day!

You are important.

I've never been a dad, but I appreciate your value,

My Father died 10 years ago, and I still love and miss him.

And I still appreciate what a good father he was.

We grow some real smart ones here

Yep, right here in Ocala/Marion County. Just look at the ol' Ocala Star-Banner.

Where to begin?

How about: "Two teens accused of burglary were caught after they apparently failed to log off a MySpace.com account on a computer in the home." Frankly this just about says it all, no need to read the rest of the story.

Moving on to adults: "A former office manager for two Ocala doctors turned herself in shortly before noon Monday after being accused of stealing nearly $70,000 from the business, according to an Ocala police report." This genius got caught because "...only a few records of any cash ever being deposited into the business' bank account." And she continue to steal the cash even while she "...was injured and allowed to work from her home, according to the report." Employees became suspicious and decided to do their own investigation. Between Jan. 22 and 29, employees said they photocopied the cash that came into the business, the report noted. The money, along with the day's work, was then delivered to Gulick's home. When the employees returned to pick up the cash, Gulick reportedly gave them a deposit for the business and also asked them to take her personal deposit to the bank. The employees compared the office's photocopied cash and the cash that Gulick asked to be deposited into her own account. The bills matched." Quite the smooth move, Capone.

And to our boys in blue: "The off-duty deputy was driving a car that crashed, ran away because he feared he was over the legal alcohol limit and then urged his friends not to tell Ocala police he was involved." Way to go, Columbo.

Some days you can get so proud of where you live. Some might feel a bit superior...but that ain't too hard with this bunch.

Religion of Peace, My Ass! (Part 17)

I know I'm kinda late to the party on this, but the Ocala Star-Banner just "reported" on this Sunday.

A Pew Research Center poll released late last month found that, while U.S. Muslims are largely the picture of assimilation, about a quarter of Muslims ages 18 to 29 said the use of suicide bombing against civilian targets to defend Islam could be justified, at least on rare occasions.

I know, it's just a survey. But believe me, if 25% of Christians said it was still okay to forcefully convert heathens, there would be quite the stink. This only shows that one religion left its brutal history behind, while another embraces it further.

But at least both Christianity and Islam are back to their beginnings. One based on dying for others; the other based on dying while killing others.

It was race! Ahh, of course.

Breaking news from Ocala.

Actor Wesley Snipes is a victim of "unscrupulous tax advice" and is being selectively targeted for prosecution on federal tax evasion charges because he is black, his attorneys argue in a motion to dismiss the indictment.

Of course it was race. Whitey still be keepin' the black man down. Like OJ, Michael Jackson and any other black celebrity who gets in trouble with the man.

And the rains came

Thank you, Barry. We supposedly got 2 inches during past 24 hours. Barry's gone now, but it at least dumped some rain over the fires. I'm afraid other parts of Florida didn't fare as well, but the rain is welcomed.
