Damn, But It's Hot Out There!

The Arctic sea ice is melting. Yes, it is and I have no reason to doubt the accuracy of the following article (found at http://wattsupwiththat.com/2012/09/25/hamster-wheels-and-sea-ice-explained/)

And I have no doubt of the following excerpt:

"That’s the analogy John Yackel, head of the department of geography, makes when he considers the annual summer ice melt in the Arctic, which he’s been closely monitoring for the past 15 years – documenting the ice cover as it’s steadily shrunk in the wake of Arctic and global warming.

Thoughts of imminent crashes seem particularly ominous this year as last week marked the unofficial peak, or the end of the summer ice melt, with ice levels more dramatically diminished than at any time since satellite monitoring began 33 years ago."

Two comments however. The first is "than at any time since satellite monitoring began 33 years ago." I know 33 years is more than a lifetime ago for many of you, but really...the world did not begin when you were born, or even all the way back to 33 years ago.

Okay, my second comment is really more visual.

One more tiny history lesson: 'science' even then was not sure if the earth was warming or whether we should be expecting a new ice age. Science can be so fickle, so ya' gotta watch yourself.

So you may see my point. The present melting Arctic sea ice may be a big friggin' deal...or it may not. But PLEASE don't cry that there's a damned thing we can do about it that has any chance of halting the inevitable. But we can use our science and technology to help us deal with the consequences.

And for you youngsters who are so damned sure the world did not exist until you were born...the North Pole sea ice froze once more after 1958 and wasn't an issue for decades.
