Right In Florida

Motto: This is what happens when Insanity and Banality come together.

Name:
Location: North Central Florida, United States

I'm an aging boomer, white male (cue scary music); not religious, mostly conservative. Married to the same woman forever. No kids-by choice (I believe in personal choice in most areas of life). Voted mostly Republican until November 2000 when the national Democrats tried to steal the election in Florida. I promised to never again vote for another Democrat; kept that promise to date.

Florida leads the nation in gun common sense

The Ocala Star-Banner prints an AP article entitled: 'Shoot first' gun laws gain steam across U.S.Ten states have passed 'stand your ground' legislation this year.

The article then says:
A campaign by gun rights advocates to make it easier to use deadly force in self-defense is rapidly winning support across the country, as state after state makes it legal for people who feel their lives are in danger to shoot down an attacker - whether in a car-jacking or just on the street.
********************
Ten states so far this year have passed a version of the law, after Florida was the first last year. It's already being considered in Arizona in the case of a deadly shooting on a hiking trail.

I'm very proud that we here in Florida were the first to show common sense in the matter of personal safety.

Florida, the rules are different here. You gotta problem with that!

Yeah right, you're stealing my material! ;)

Which by the way came from a late S. Florida talk show host who played a song- Welcome to South Florida, the rules are different here.

It had lyrics like=

The goverment is broke
Hey but thats just a joke,
Come back and some more money next year

It also had-

And welcome to South Florida where a driveby shooting could cost you your life

And

If you put underwear over your head
You could be a county commissioner instead.

Lee Fowler died 10 or so years ago. He was a funny man.

Thanks for the memories TFM. I was born in Ft. Lauderdale. I returned in 1969 and stayed until 1986. I think I recall Lee Fowler's work. And what you posted is very clever.

I also remember when we had an official state marketing slogan: "Florida. The rules are different here." (When was that...the 80s?)It was ripe for jokes and satire. And sometimes it seemed so true. Sometimes still does.

During the disco 70s when drugs became mainstream and cocaine & pot was at every party, that slogan seemed so very true. Same as when a Broward county sheriff was indicted as were so many Dade county politicians.

Sorry to steal your material. I know you've had quite a few posts with it. But I may have to borrow it a time or two in the future. Sometimes it's just sooooo appropriate for what goes on in our state.
