Right In Florida

Motto: This is what happens when Insanity and Banality come together.

Name:
Location: North Central Florida, United States

I'm an aging boomer, white male (cue scary music); not religious, mostly conservative. Married to the same woman forever. No kids-by choice (I believe in personal choice in most areas of life). Voted mostly Republican until November 2000 when the national Democrats tried to steal the election in Florida. I promised to never again vote for another Democrat; kept that promise to date.

Kick Ass Weather!

That's what we had last night!!

Fortunately for us the worst weather (you know, killer tornados) was mostly a little south and east of us. But it was raging for hours until after 2:30 this morning. Marion County had a little damage, Volusia even more, but poor Lake County got smashed. I think all the 19 deaths occurred in Lake.

So sorry for those who lost their lives, not to mention the many hundreds with property damage.

It was gratifying to again see Floridians pulling together in the aftermath. The first responders got there asap, and as usual the neighbors got there first to help their fellows. That's the way it should be...government important, but people taking care of themselves and others is more important.

Strangest thing happened though. Well, it would be strange if this was Louisiana, particularly New Orleans. The local governments had their act together and immediately started rescue and recovery. But that's been true ever since Jeb Bush became governor and the legislature turned Republican. Gov. Crist is sure to continue this trend. Competence. That's what's so surprising...but only to those used to Democrat-run areas.
